When Do You Know it's Time to Replace Your Air Conditioner?
The summer heat is here and we are relying on our air conditioners more than any other time of year. Make sure your family stays cool this summer by looking out for these warning signs of a failing air conditioner.
Air conditioners should be replaced every 10-15 years. If your air conditioner is more than 10 years old, it is likely using Freon refrigerant. This refrigerant is being phased out, expensive, and is much less efficient than newer models. Newer models can have up to a 20 seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) rating, while older versions can start at a SEER rating of 13.
High Energy Bills
It is a simple fact that we all want to save money. While buying a new air conditioner may seem like a huge expense, it will save you money in the long run. Keep your utility bills on hand to ensure your monthly bill is not on a steady incline. In addition, the cost of repairs should be no more than 50% of what the cost of a new unit would be.
If your air conditioner is on its third or more major repair, it is likely there will be more on the way. This includes anything to do with the blower motor, compressor, and condenser coils. Take notice of any squealing, grinding, or grating sounds that your unit makes. These noises can be indicators of a major problem.
If one or more of these signs are present in your current air conditioner, start looking into getting a replacement. Contact Cardinal Heating & Cooling today to make sure you get all that you need with your new unit!
